The Disappearance of YG’s Legendary Composer: Gone Without a Trace for 14 Years

A resurfaced post titled “YG Composer Missing for Over 10 Years” has recently gone viral on Korean online community theqoo, drawing over 93,000 views and reigniting concern over the mysterious disappearance of Perry, one of YG Entertainment’s most iconic early composers.
Perry, known for producing some of YG’s foundational hits in the late ’90s and early 2000s, helped shape the label’s sound with songs for artists like Jinusean, 1TYM, Se7en, Lexy, and Wheesung. His name appears in the credits for 1TYM‘s “One Time”, Lexy‘s “Amateur”, and even early BigBang tracks like “Wrong Number” and “How Gee.”
But after 2010, Perry virtually disappeared.
Missing Since 2010
According to Perry’s nephew, the last confirmed sighting was in Los Angeles in 2010. Since then, no family members or colleagues have heard from him. A missing person report was filed with the U.S. Department of State, as his last known location couldn’t be verified, making it difficult to file a standard police report. Despite speaking with law enforcement, the family received little help.
Initial assumptions were that Perry, known to be a private individual, simply wished to live off the grid. But when he failed to attend critical family events, particularly funerals, alarm bells rang.

Now, more than 14 years later, his family has begun a public search, although their efforts are clouded with fear. According to the nephew, the family hesitates to dig too deeply, hinting at possible anxiety over what they might discover.
Adding to the confusion, former YG producers Masta Wu and Choice37 once suggested Perry might not be in Korea, directly contradicting the family’s belief that he may have quietly returned there. Others speculate he could still be somewhere in the U.S., but no solid leads have emerged.
A Legacy Interrupted
Perry’s final contribution to YG Entertainment was in 2010. By 2013, he was no longer under contract. Since then, artists and collaborators have consistently reported an inability to contact him. In interviews, they mention only hearing vague rumors that he had gone back to the U.S.

Due to legal privacy protections, if Perry is alive and chooses not to reveal his whereabouts, authorities cannot disclose his location, even to family members.
Fans and music insiders are now sharing tributes and expressing hope for his safety, while also mourning the loss of a creative force who helped shape an era of K-pop history.

Comments on theqoo:
- No way.
- Wow. I happened to watch something about this person on YouTube once… If they disappeared by choice, then that’s a relief, but if something bad happened because of someone else, that’s honestly terrifying. They have family too…
- He’s someone I’m really curious about… what he’s been up to.
- But there are actually quite a few celebrities who suddenly disappear without a trace. Makes me think of Kim Gyu-ri (Kim Moon-sun). I just think “no news is good news.”
- Oh my god…
- I never thought of it this way before, but is there really no way to find out through this? Please… What’s even more shocking is that I remember seeing this post years ago — and yet there’s still no trace. What on earth could’ve happened?
Despite the mystery, one fact remains: Perry’s legacy lives on in the beats and bars of YG’s golden years—while his absence continues to raise unanswered questions.
