The Fantastic Four Have a New Leader in Both Comics & MCU

A new update reveals that Sue Storm is now officially the leader of the Fantastic Four in both the comics and MCU. Her promotion ties into upcoming storylines in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the latest comic reboot, signaling a coordinated shift across media.
Sue Storm leads Fantastic Four in Marvel comics and First Steps
In Fantastic Four #1 (2025), Marvel Comics officially positions Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman, as the leader of the team.
This shift aligns with recent developments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where the film The Fantastic Four: First Steps also presents Sue as the team’s leader. In the preview released by ComicBook.com, Sue narrates the opening pages and introduces each member of the team: Ben Grimm, Reed Richards, and Johnny Storm, before confirming her own role as leader.
Sue’s leadership is emphasized through her central role in the storyline, which sees the Fantastic Four confronting Emperor Doom during the One World Under Doom event. In the battle against Doom’s army of Doombots, Sue leads the charge and delivers a powerful invisible punch that sends Doom flying into a building. The conflict escalates as Doom retaliates with green energy, scattering the team across different historical eras.
The plot of Fantastic Four #1 follows the team’s quest to reunite and retrieve the Forever Stone, a geological artifact that exists across multiple time periods. Writer Ryan North explained to The Hollywood Reporter that while the story includes science fiction elements like “dinosaurs and time travel,” the heart of the narrative focuses on the relationships and emotional depth of the team.
Artist Humberto Ramos also reflected on the importance of the project, stating, “The weight of history and legacy of these characters lay upon your shoulders.” The creative team aims to showcase a new chapter for Marvel’s First Family, emphasizing both familial bonds and friendship.
The comic’s narrative and character roles mirror the direction of the MCU film, in which Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman refers to herself as the leader.
Fantastic Four #1 releases on July 9, 2025.
