The Good Place Is Leaving Netflix In September After Lengthy Run On Streamer

Michael Schur is a comedy creator whose name has become synonymous with hits. His winning combination of oddball premises paired with gut-busting humor and lovable characters has cemented the majority of his series in the canon of must-watch TV.

Prior to the short-lived Peacock original Ruthford Falls and Netflix’s A Man on the Inside, Schur’s storytelling could almost exclusively be found on broadcast, with the sole exceptions being an episode of Black Mirror he co-wrote with Rashida Jones and two episodes he’d written for HBO’s The Comeback.

Streaming has allowed longtime fans to continue to enjoy Schur’s series well after they’ve finished airing. It’s also given the shows the opportunity to reach a new audience stateside and across the globe. Those who adore sitcoms can binge their way through seasons of Parks & Recreation, Schur’s first co-created comedy, which is streaming on Peacock, or one of his most referenced shows, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the cop-fronted series is also available to stream on Netflix.

Schur’s most popular program, and highest rated with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 97%, The Good Place is the best place to start if you want to dive into his work. But, if you’d prefer to binge the comedy on Netflix, you’ll have to move fast. What’s On Netflix reports The Good Place is leaving the streamer after September 25.

US Netflix subscribers will have until midnight local time on September 25 to make their way through The Good Place. The comedy has four seasons and 53 episodes. Bar a renewal of Netflix’s licensing agreement with NBCUniversal, the series will be removed from the platform by September 26.

Per What’s On Netflix, the streamer’s subscribers outside the US won’t see a change in the show’s availability. It’s not expected to leave international Netflix platforms until September 26, 2026. This is subject to change if a license renewal occurs.

A new streaming home for The Good Place hasn’t been announced. However, it’s likely to be Peacock since NBCUniversal holds the rights to the series. It’s unknown when the show will become available again to stream after it leaves Netflix.

While Netflix remains the streaming platform with the most watched content, The Good Place making the hop to another streamer doesn’t mean it won’t continue to find a new audience who enjoys the comedy. There also shouldn’t be concern that the show will be kept off streaming for a significant amount of time.

The Good Place stars Kristen Bell and Ted Danson both have hit comedies streaming on Netflix–Nobody Wants This and A Man on the Inside–with upcoming second seasons. It’s likely the show’s new streaming home will want to capitalize on the buzz drawn by their star power and direct potential new subscribers to their platform.
