The Lightsaber Color Harrison Ford Wants Most Hasn't Ever Been Seen In Star Wars Live-Action Yet

Ten years ago, Han Solo actor Harrison Ford revealed the color lightsaber he’d most like to have. That said, we still haven’t seen the color in live-action, despite all the various Star Wars movies and shows that have been released since 2015.

While promoting The Force Awakens back in 2015, Harrison Ford was asked what color lightsaber he’d prefer in an interview with Collider (video below with lightsaber comments beginning at about 2:10):

Whether it was simply a joke or a genuine interest in having a pink-bladed lightsaber, it’s worth mentioning that we still haven’t seen a pink saber in live-action. However, pink lightsabers do exist in Star Wars, both in the established canon and in non-canonical projects known as Legends.

In Legends, the most notable wielder of a pink lightsaber was Mara Jade, the former assassin of Emperor Palpatine, turned wife of Luke Skywalker in the Expanded Universe. Technically, Mara Jade’s lightsaber color was magenta, which is more of a pink-purple hue. Nevertheless, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber blades were also pink in Marvel’s very first Star Wars comics.

In the established Star Wars canon, pink lightsabers have been shown sporadically, though never in live-action. Firstly, pink lightsabers were shown in the Disney Junior series Young Jedi Adventures, and pink is also a color option for Cal Kestis’ lightsaber in EA’s Star Wars games Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor.

Likewise, the upcoming Star Wars Visions Vol. 3, which is releasing soon on Disney+, will see the debut of a character named Shad-Rah, a new Jedi who will also be wielding a pink lightsaber. However, all the animated Visions stories have thus far always been deemed non-canonical and not part of the official Star Wars timeline.

It’s About Time Star Wars Debuts Some New Lightsaber Colors

While pink has not yet received its due on the live-action screen, it’s worth noting that other new colors have emerged since 2019.

The black-bladed Darksaber became far more prominent in the Star Wars timeline thanks to shows like Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian, while 2023’s Ahsoka debuted the Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati. Both Star Wars villains were shown wielding lightsabers with blood-orange blades, which does feel like a step in the right direction.

With any luck, future live-action Star Wars projects will debut a greater variety of lightsaber colors that hopefully includes pink (because why wouldn’t we want to make Harrison Ford happy?).
