‘The Nice Guy’ Lee Dong Wook gave up on his dream and chose to compromise with reality

The Nice Guy unveils stills featuring Lee Dong Wook.
The Nice Guy tells the story of Park Seok Cheol (Lee Dong Wook), the eldest grandson of a third-generation gangster family who strives to protect his loved ones.
Park Seok Cheol is a man who once dreamed of becoming a novelist like Hemingway, but unwillingly became a gangster to make a living. Having endured with a steadfast heart, he decides to turn his life around, but reunites with Kang Mi Yeong (Lee Sung Kyung), which throws him into another whirlwind.
The stills hint at the harsh life of gangster Park Seok Cheol. In one, he has his face covered with wounds, and leans against a subway window with a weary look. His empty gaze suggests as if he could crumble at any moment. On the other hand, his bright demeanor in another photo suggests change is on the horizon.
Having spent long years in the organization while quietly holding onto his young, pure self as a boy who once loved literature, Park Seok Cheol begins a fight where he stakes everything to protect what is precious to him.
Lee Dong Wook shared his reason for choosing The Nice Guy, saying, “I wanted to work with director Song Hae Sung and writer Kim Woon Kyung. I started this project out of respect for the two, who have been in this field for a long time.”
He added, “When I read the script, the rhythm of the work and the flow of the dialogue felt new, and the fact that it deals with a family story was also intriguing.” He went on to say, “Having acted mostly in genre and fantasy projects over the past years, I also wanted to try my hand at a melodrama — that was another reason I chose this project.”
He further explained, “Park Seok Cheol is a character you can easily find around you — someone who has a dream he deeply longs to achieve but ends up having to compromise with reality.”
The Good Man is coming July 18. The K-drama will be streaming on Disney+ and Hulu (select regions).
