The Witcher Season 4 Ending Explained: What Happened to Ciri?

Netflix’s The Witcher Season 4 ending showcased an intense battle and a ruthless confrontation. Much of the season centered around Ciri, with Geralt and Yennifer doing their part to keep her safe from danger. However, by the end of the season, Ciri ends up in a place that they wouldn’t want her to be in.

Here’s what happened to Ciri in the finale.

What happened to Geralt and Ciri in The Witcher Season 4’s ending?

In the ending episode of The Witcher 4, “Baptism of Fire,” Ciri is captured by the bounty hunter Leo Bonhart.

The conflict begins when the Rats, believing they can defeat Bonhart, decide to confront him together.  Unaware of his deadly skill, the bandits provoke him to fight them. Although Bonhart offers to spare their lives for a “bigger reward,” they choose the “hard way”—to fight him.

Their fight leads to the brutal deaths of each bandit as Bonhart easily kills them in different ways. He pierces Asse’s skull with his sword, slices Giz’s guts out, and even forces Kayleigh’s own explosive into his torso. Elsewhere, Ciri/Falka is on her way, racing towards her friends on Kelpie.

Meanwhile, Mistle attempts to attack Bonhart from behind, though in vain. He quickly overpowers her and asks where Falka, the “skilled one,” is. Moments later, Ciri gallops into the street and stands in shock as she witnesses all her friends lying dead.

Overcome with anger, she fights Bonhart. He even acknowledges her skills and says that if her friends had fought like her, they’d still be alive. Nonetheless, the fight ends with Ciri defeated and unconscious. Later, she wakes up to the horrid scene of Bonhart decapitating all the Rats for proof to claim his rewards. In the end, he forces Ciri to watch him as he kills Mistle last.

On the other hand, Geralt is leading the Hansa, fighting for the Northern forces alongside Queen Meve after being knighted. Yennefer is rallying sorceresses to form the Lodge of Sorceresses and is preparing to confront Vilgefortz at his stone lair through a portal.

Seasons 4 and 5 were shot back-to-back, covering Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher saga. While much of the story is adapted from the books, the showrunners have made changes in the show. So, it remains to be seen how it all ends in the series’s concluding season.

All eight episodes of The Witcher Season 4 are now streaming on Netflix.
