After the savage reviews and  the audiences’ mixed reaction to the pageant  of periodicity  Thugs Of Hindostan has taken a sharp plummet at  the boxoffice.

Post the day of release collections fell as much as 30 to 50 percent  in several centres. While on  the first day  this lavish costume drama collected  approximately Rupees 50 crores, the next day there was sharp drop in the  collections . By Sunday the  collections had dropped by a further 25 percent. The  collections at the end  of long  holiday weekend was around Rs 118crores,  a paltry amount when  considered many big Diwali releases  in the past.

The collections fell even more drastically on Monday.

“The losses are yet to be computed. But Thugs Of Hindostan will  be among the lowest earners among Aamir Khan starrers, that’s for sure. The  collections are falling every day,” says a  personnel from a leading  multiplex who  blames the  rapid fall  at the boxoffice not only on the  quality  of  the work and poor reviews, but also on the high ticket pricing.

“The  producers  insisted  on hiking  ticket prices .This  extra pressure on the consumers’ pockets during  Diwali also worked against the  film,” says producer Pahlaj Nihalani who was  all set to release  his film Rangeela Raja alongside Yash Raj’s Thugs Of Hindostan.

“I am  sure the  audience would have liked to have another option at the multiplexes, specially considering how they’ve reacted to  Thugs Of Hindostan. But my film couldn’t  make  it on time due to unforeseen  circumstances,” says Nihalani.

Eminent critic Raja Sen  comments, “It is heartening to see the audience being discerning and staying away from a   universally panned film. When  a film that nobody likes  makes a lot of money, filmmakers  become complacent.”
