The Transformers series has always been children-friendly.In fact director Michael Bay has gone on-record to state that he targets the Transformer franchise at 14-year olds. It therefore comes as a shock to know that the latest Transformer film has been given an ‘Adults’ certificate.
Explains the censor chief Pahlaj Nihalani, “We offered to make some cuts and give it a ‘UA’ but the film’s Indian producers Viacom 18 Motion Pictures preferred to take an ‘A’ without cuts.”
Nihalani insists the Indian censor board is more liberal than its British and American counterparts. “The Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil which got a ‘UA’ in India got a 15+ rating in Britain. The Harry Potter series which we certify for all ages gets a 15+ in the UK. And still we’re considered prudes.”
