Tusshar Kapoor: I do miss working with Kareena…

Tusshar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan have been childhood buddies after which the actress worked with him in his debut film, Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. Since then the two friends have remained inseparable friends and now even have play dates together with their two babies Lakshya and Taimur. Kareena has worked with Tusshar in Golmaal 2 and 3 but this time it’s Parineeti Chopra who’s replaced the senior actress in Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again.

As we catch up with Tusshar while he’s shooting for GA we ask him about Kareena, his experience of playing the same character after seven years and how his role has changed in the film…

Do you miss Kareena on the Golmaal Again sets?
I just miss working with Kareena because she’s a friend and co-star. She’s worked with me on my first film also so I have that emotional connect with her and co-incidentally some of my best work has been with her including the Golmaal 2 and 3. But I have to add that in Golmaal Again the story is completely new and it’s now seven years later so it’s exciting. Maybe because it wasn’t conceived with anybody else but those who haven’t played these characters, it doesn’t feel like I am missing her on set, really, but I do miss working with Kareena, generally and as a friend. But now I am working with Tabu in the film, and she’s also a good friend. Parineeti is also great fun to be on the sets with.

How different is your character from the earlier Golmaals?
I play the same character Lucky and again I don’t talk. Every time Rohit has added a different element to my character and this time too he has tried to create something different and tried to approach it a little differently, which I can’t reveal right now. So I have to keep that balance – it has to be 2017. It can’t feel like that it’s too much of the same thing. How do we still make it as exciting as before? It’s always a challenge making another Golmaal because the expectations are high – keep that flavor of the franchise and at the same time you got to fine tune things here and there so there’s freshness.

Do you feel that you have bettered your acting in Golmaal Again?
I have lost objectivity with every film. I think Rohit can answer that best. All I know is that I have to keep doing it better. It’s becoming easier now. The first time I did it was the most grueling workshop I went through. After that it has been just anxiety – have I forgotten what I did before and is it the same? I keep asking the AD’s if it is working or not. I hope this time it’s the same but I can’t really judge myself. I am constantly thinking I could have done this or that better in some way or the other.
