Every two days there is a new rumour regarding Varun Dhawan’s marriage to his girlfriend Natasha Dalal. Just the other day we read about the destination for the alleged destination wedding being at the Khao Lake Resort. Now comes the ‘news’ that Varun’s wedding has been called off because of the failure of his latest release Street Dancer.
However when I touched base with Varun he angrily refuted these reports saying, “Are you mad? I won’t answer such stupid questions.”
He then went on to comment on the irresponsible section of journalism, when the truth is, the gossip media gossips only after stories are planted by the stars’ marketing team. Varun should check on what his team is leaking to the press before getting worked up about wedding rumours.
Two back-to-back flops Kalank and Street Dancer has certainly taken their toll on his equipoise. But he should relax. No star is immune to the cycle of hits and flops. India’s greatest superstar Rajesh Khanna gave a string flops after 12 consecutive hits. Varun’s father superstar-director David Dhawan has also had his share of flops amidst a hurricane of hits.
If Varun wants hits to his credit he should get out of his comfort zone more often. But I hear the opposite. He won’t attempt offbeat subjects for some time now as he did earlier when he worked in Sriram Raghavan’s Badlapur and Shoojit Sircar’s October. A pity, really.Films like Coolie No 1 can’t ensure durable success.
