A true hero in the make-believe world of showbiz is hard to find. In Tamil Nadu while the other more senior iconic actors are still paying lip service to their purported political aspirations, young Vishal Krishna has galvanized into action ,putting his money where his mouth is, so to speak.
In Andhra Pradesh where Vishal’s new Tamil digital thriller Irumbu Thirai opened as Abimanyudu two weeks ago , the film is a big success, out-grossing the Telugu version of the Rajinikanth starrer Kaala.
In an unpredecented show of empathy for the masses Vishal is donating a part of his film’s boxoffice earnings in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to the farmers of the two states.
Reluctant to speak about his overwhelming generosity Vishal says, “It is nothing to talk about. All of us in Tamil Nadu or Andhra or any part of the world who have a voice and the power to do something to improve the lives of those less privileged than us, must do so .I mean why are we even talking about this?”
Vishal does admit to his charitable deed. “It’s true I’ve asked the distributors in Andhra and Telangana to give 1 rupee from each ticket bought for my film Abhimanyudu to the farmers of the State. It doesn’t how many tickets are sold . But 1 rupee from every ticket sold in every screen and theatre in Andhra and Telangana will go into saving the farmers of these two states.”
Vishal feels token gestures are not really a solution to the ills of a state. “But at least it is a start. It is better than giving speeches which everyone hears and forgets or holding the hands of victims of exploitation . They don’t need our sympathy. They need our support.”
