Watson season 2 could still see the return of a major character, despite their death. Hailing from Elementary executive producer Craig Sweeny, with Morris Chestnut leading as the titular John Watson, the medical drama sees the traditional supporting character step into the spotlight after the apparent death of Sherlock Holmes.

Watson season 2 won’t return until January 2026, but the CBS show did tie up a major thread in its first finale. The villainous Moriarty (Randall Park) is defeated by Watson, who makes the choice to kill his adversary. That doesn’t mean that Moriarty is gone forever, though.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Sweeny explains why Moriarty’s death doesn’t have to be the end. Sweeny, who serves as showrunner, talks in the quote below about how Moriarty could return and always wanting to keep Park as part of the show:

“I definitely wouldn’t rule it out. I mean, definitely the act will haunt Watson, and you’d be a fool to say, I would never allow Randall Park to act in our show. I mean, I would love to see him again.”

More to come…
