Wednesday Season 2: Who Are the Avians? Powers Explained

Avians in Wednesday Season 2 are outcasts who control birds. Their core power is ornithokinesis, the ability to command avian life of many kinds. The limit is not stated on screen. In practice, an Avian can send a single scout to follow a target or direct a full flock to swarm. Attacks arrive in waves and often aim for the eyes. Some Avians specialize in Corvuskinesis, which is focused on the control of crows.

Avians are still mortal, and they can be injured and killed like anyone else. As for known Avians in this story, Wednesday Season 2 confirms only Judi Spannagel. The season ties her power to Willow Hill and to LOIS, a program that moves abilities from outcasts to normies.

How Judi’s Avian Powers Could Shape Wednesday Season 2 Part 2

Judi Spannagel’s control of the birds shifts Part 2 from a mystery into a direct battle against the LOIS program. With the Avian unmasked and her underground network at Willow Hill exposed, the focus now is on dismantling a system that uses crows for spying, attacking, and covering its tracks while forged records make victims disappear.

Wednesday will need to change her approach. She has to avoid open courtyards where flocks can strike freely, secure rooftops, and aviaries that act as staging grounds. She will also have to push conflicts into enclosed spaces where the birds lose their advantage. Then follow the records and forged obituaries that keep LOIS running.

Judi remains dangerous because she believes her scale makes her untouchable, yet large flocks leave visible patterns, and a program that size leaves evidence. Two factors complicate the fight: Larissa Weems’ return as a spirit guide who steadies Wednesday’s choices, and Tyler Galpin’s unstable Hyde, which could either disrupt Judi’s plans or create new chaos.

If Wednesday manages to cut down the network, the sky itself will no longer be a weapon against her.

In Episode 4, the hood comes off, and Judi Spannagel is unmasked as the force behind the crow attacks and the forged files. Alfred Gough said in an August 15 interview with EW that they designed the season so that the midpoint explodes and pulls the story forward. He added:

We didn’t want to repeat ourselves, as second seasons are tricky things with a lot of shows, and we wanted to change up the mystery storytelling. So the idea is that at the end of episode 4, literally all hell breaks loose. It propels you forward, but I don’t think you quite know where it’s going.

Miles Millar also added that viewers should be “very worried” about what comes next. The investigation shifts from one killer to a larger machine. Judi isn’t only responsible for the murders; she also runs the Long-term Outcast Integration Study, which forges obituaries, hides living subjects, and extracts powers.

Wednesday and Uncle Fester uncover the cells beneath Willow Hill. Meanwhile, Slurp escapes, grows stronger by eating brains, and finally speaks, raising the stakes for everyone. Part 2 arrives on September 3, 2025; Tim Burton returns as a director and executive producer in Season 2.
