The long wait is finally over. As per the latest reports, the villain for Man of Tomorrow has been confirmed, and he is none other than the individual from a superintelligent alien species, Coluan. Get ready to welcome Brainiac to the silver screens, finally. The news was let out by The Wrap on November 13, reporting an update on James Gunn’s months-old social media posting.

Taking to X, back in September this year, Gunn had posted a picture of the anatomy of a human head on the first page of the Man of Tomorrow script, instantly gaining popularity among the DC fans, suggesting that Brainiac had set its course to Metropolis.
Gunn later teased the character again during a press conference for the Peacemaker Season 2 finale. It was when The Wrap asked Gunn about what would get Lex Luthor to team up with his archnemesis, to which the DCU co-chair stated,
A pretty pronounced one. Lex Luthor is mostly concerned about Lex Luthor. So we’ll see what threatens Lex Luthor.
Now that The Wrap has confirmed the news, things seem pretty exciting, with the article also mentioning that the movie will enter the filming process in Atlanta in April and will hit the screens on July 9, 2027.
However, what makes the entry of Brainiac intriguing is its challenging presence in Krypton, the Syfy series starring Blake Ritson in the character. It was the first time that Brainiac was pulled into a live-action outing, that too being presented in the most literal form. His costumes, the practical makeup, as well as the CGI around the character pushed boundaries. And now that he is finally coming to the DCU, Gunn certainly has a big challenge to dodge.

Brainiac Has Been a Long Time Coming

Superman fans from the Snyderverse may know that Zack Snyder had planned a second entry of Man of Steel. While the hopes dimmed and shimmered throughout the run of DCEU, everyone got excited when Henry Cavill showed up in the post-credit scene of Black Adam, only to have it all lost forever.
However, while talking about Army of the Dead, back in 2021, Snyder teased the possibility of watching Brainiac against Cavill. According to the Post-Credits Podcast, Snyder mentioned,
We talked about a Brainiac movie. But, I do think that the Kryptonians that are in the Phantom Zone are probably still around, and there was possibility for their return.
It surely would have been an intense battle to look at, with Cavill’s muscular Superman going against the intelligence of Brainiac.

Is Lex Luthor Actually a Villain?
Detailing the villain, The Wrap also confirmed one ever-wanted pair-up in the DCU. The tabloid reported that Superman and Lex Luthor will team up to tackle the main antagonist, Brainiac.
This prompts us to reconsider the villainous nature of Luthor. In the comics, Brainiac has engaged in brawls several times, and in 1963’s Superman #164, Luthor and Superman traveled to an alien planet to fight each other.
During his days on this planet, Luthor was shown to help the locals tackle their water shortage. However, as things worsened and Luthor realized he didn’t have enough power to end the drought, he actually surrendered to Superman, asking for his help for the natives.
