WARNING! SPOILERS ahead for FBI season 7, episode 17, “Lineage.”FBI season 7, episode 17, titled “Lineage,” features a familiar actor as Isobel’s (Alana de Ganza) husband. The FBI franchise often features well-known actors in supporting and guest roles, so it’s unsurprising that Isobel’s husband would be well-known to audiences. This character was first mentioned in FBI season 7 as part of an ongoing storyline about Isobel compartmentalizing her home and professional lives. Prior to this story, nothing was known about Isobel’s family.

Although Isobel has been an important part of the FBI cast of characters since season 2, this is the first time that her husband has been on-screen. He appears in scenes at the beginning and end of the episode while Isobel is at home. These scenes are part of a subplot in which Isobel begins to think about whether she wants to retire now that she has been working for the FBI for 20 years.

FBI Isobel and Her Husband Hug

While it was surprising for Isobel to suddenly have a husband, once it was revealed that she was married, the procedural needed to show the man on-screen. Thus, it was announced in mid-March that Isobel’s husband had been cast and would be played by Tom Cavanagh. Soon afterward, an exclusive FBI season 7 clip gave audiences a sneak peek at Cavanagh’s character, who is named Philip, discussing the possibility of retirement with Isobel while celebrating her 20th anniversary with the FBI.

I’m Thankful For Isobel’s FBI Season 7, Episode 17 Decision, But I’m Still Worried About Her Future

Isobel’s future in the show is safe for now, but I’m still worried about where she is headed after her storyline in FBI season 7, episode 17.

Cavanagh, who is best known for his role in The Flash, doesn’t have a lot of screen time in “Lineage.” This is standard for FBI, as the series often has scenes between FBI agents and their families or significant others at the beginning and end of an episode while focusing mainly on the case of the week. However, Philip may return on a recurring basis since he is established as an important person in Isobel’s life.
