Why No New Task Episode Was Released Last Night

Having premiered on HBO Max on September 7, the Mark Ruffalo-led Task series dominated discussions for several weeks, amassing a dedicated fanbase in the process. Given that the show followed a weekly release pattern, with each new episode airing on Sundays, Task was supposed to premiere Episode 8 last night. However, since no new chapter hit the small screen on October 26, many have come out to inquire about the reason behind this omission.

Why HBO Max didn’t release a new Task episode last night?

Task Episode 8 did not air on HBO Max last night, as the miniseries ended its run on October 19 with its seventh and final episode.

The acclaimed crime drama wrapped up its gripping narrative with Episode 7, drawing a close to what has turned out to be one of the most well-received shows of 2025.

Created and written by Brad Ingelsby and featuring Mark Ruffalo, Tom PelphreyEmilia JonesThuso MbeduRaúl Castillo, Jamie McShane, and Martha Plimpton, among others, the miniseries revolved around the escapades of a Philadelphia-based FBI agent named Tom Brandis. Charged with investigating a series of robberies, he soon discovers that the perpetrators are more than they seem, who meticulously target houses run by outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Since Ingelsby envisioned Task as a miniseries, the show ended with its seventh episode, ruling out the possibility of a new episode. Nevertheless, the veteran screenwriter has since conveyed that a potential Season 2 might happen in the future.

Talking about continuing Task in a recent interview, Ingelsby noted, “I’d love to have a chance to do another season of Task. If people respond to Task and keep responding to Task, I’d love to tell more stories about this place, because I love writing about this place. I do feel like I have more stories to tell.”

Despite Brad Ingelsby’s encouraging updates, HBO Max has yet to share any official word regarding a second season of Task.
