Director Shree Narayan Singh is grinning from year to year. Last year he scored bull’s eye with Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. This year he has his eyes and eart set on another socially-relevant film on power theft in a snall town of Uttar Pradesh . The film titled Batti Gul Meter Chalu, will feature Shahid Kapoor as a smalltown power thief…you know those guys with the ladders who sneak up electricity poles and connect wires illegally into homes and business premises?
Interestingly Yami Gautam has just been signed on to play a lawyer who defends Shahid Kapoor in the power-theft case. For Yami this is the one opportunity to escape her pretty-lovergirl image. She has no romantic interest in Shahid in Batti Gul Meter Down.
Shahid’s immediate co-star in Batti Gul is the down-and-out ShradhaKapoor. She beat Katrina Kaif to playing his wife on the scale of rusticity.Katrina just didn’t make the cut a smalltown UP housewife the kind who walks around in a crumpled cotton housecoat all day in their pokey little home. Shradha on the other hand, convinced the director and producer Prernaa Arora by dressing up and speaking in the rural dialect.
Shradha who hasn’t had a hit in while has also agreed to take a pay-cut to re-unite with her Haidar co-star.
