On September 26, a memorial altar for Jeon Yoo-sung was set up at Asan Medical Center in Pungnap-dong, Seoul. Known as a pioneer and regarded as the “godfather of Korean comedy,” Jeon Yoo-sung passed away on September 25 due to complications from pneumothorax at the age of 76.
Yoo Jae-suk and Ji Seok-jin arrived relatively early at the memorial hall to pay tribute to the trailblazer who was recognized as Korea’s “No.1 Comedian.” The two remained at the altar from 3:20 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., spending time with fellow comedians and sharing memories of the late Jeon.
Their sincerity was evident even as they departed. Yoo Jae-suk, in particular, bowed at a full 90 degrees to each funeral director and staff member, showing deep respect and humility as he bid farewell to his senior.
The funeral is being held under the auspices of the Korean Comedians Association, with the burial scheduled for 7 a.m. on September 28. Fellow comedians Lee Hong-ryeol, Shim Hyung-rae, Choi Yang-rak, and broadcaster Lee Sang-byeok also attended to pay tribute to Jeon’s lifelong contributions.

Reflecting on Jeon Yoo-sung’s legacy, comedian Choi Yang-rak recalled, “He was the very first senior I met when I debuted. He broke away from script-based comedy and expanded into talk-style humor. If not for him, I might never have become a comedian, and I may never have met my wife, Paeng Hyun-sook.”
Choi added warmly, “I believe he’s in heaven right now, probably saying, ‘Heaven isn’t perfect either. We should hold a comedy concert here once a week,’ always brimming with ideas.”
