The mystery surrounding Kim Jong-kook’s secret wedding was lifted in the September 21 broadcast of SBS’s Running Man, as fellow cast members shared behind-the-scenes stories.
Yoo Jae-suk revealed that Kim Jong-kook kept a watchful eye even during his entrance: “As soon as he walked in, he signaled to the junior guests to stay quiet. He was literally giving warnings during his own wedding.”
Kim Jong-kook also performed his own wedding song, while close friend Cha Tae-hyun unexpectedly joined as a second singer. Cha Tae-hyun recalled: “One hour before the ceremony, he suddenly asked me to sing. I ended up belting ‘I Love You’ live, without rehearsal.”
Perhaps the funniest moment came when Yoo Jae-suk exposed the gift money drama: “Kim Jong-kook scolded Yang Se-chan and Choi Daniel, asking why they gave such a huge amount. He even scolded me. But to Ji Suk-jin, he simply said, ‘Thank you, hyung.’”
Ji Suk-jin, embarrassed, insisted: “That was the largest amount I’ve ever given in my life.” Kim Jong-kook quickly added: “Yes, hyung gave a lot too, but those guys just went overboard.”
Despite Kim Jong-kook’s promise of a modest ceremony, the event stretched on: “He said it would be simple, but it lasted an hour and a half, with even a second part. Honestly, it was the longest wedding we’ve ever been to,” members joked.
Kim Jong-kook tied the knot on September 5 in a private wedding in Seoul attended only by family and close friends.
