Young & Restless’ Phyllis Actress Was ‘Shocked’ by Daytime Emmy Nod

When the Daytime Emmy nominations were announced, The Young and the Restless star Michelle Stafford was left speechless. The actress, best known for portraying the passionate and unpredictable Phyllis Summers, admitted that her nomination for the show came as a complete surprise.

Michelle Stafford on how she reacted to Emmy nomination for The Young and the Restless

Michelle Stafford said she was “very appreciative and very shocked” when she found out about her latest Daytime Emmy nomination.

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, The Young and the Restless star reflected on how much the recognition means after years of facing rejection in the industry. “It’s interesting, because as an actor, I’ve been rejected so often. You just are so used to being rejected and not being wanted as an actor,” she said.

Stafford also opened up about the Emmy submission process, saying she handpicked scenes that really showed Phyllis’s emotional highs and lows. “If it’s difficult to put together, that means I don’t have anything, and that means that I shouldn’t submit,” she said.

She added that she only throws her hat in the ring when she truly believes the work deserves it. “I’m a firm believer that if you don’t have something, don’t submit,” she said.

Stafford also shared that her 15-year-old daughter, Natalia, will accompany her to the award ceremony. The proud mother claimed that her daughter is over the moon about being her date.

“It’s just my daughter wants to go so bad, and she’s so excited to go. She wants to do the red carpet. She wants to get a spray tan. She wants a dress. So me and my daughter will have a fun time,” Stafford said.

This year’s nomination adds to Stafford’s long list of Emmy milestones. She’s already taken home multiple Daytime Emmy Awards. In 1997 for Outstanding Supporting Actress, in 2006 for Lead Actress, and again in 2024 for her role as Phyllis.
