How Big Will Kalank Be At The Boxoffice?

The Karan Johar production which opens on Wednesday is expected to do a business of at least 120-30 crores during it long weekend run from Wednesday.

Says trade expert Girish Johar, “Kalank is a mammoth film toplining big stars Varun, Alia, Madhuri, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi and Aditya Roy Kapoor. And it is coming from the premium house of Dharma. Backed by Karan Johar the trailer has generated a good craze amongst not only the respective star fans but amongst the general audiences as well.”

What about the film’s impossibly high production cost which is estimated at around 130 cores.

Concedes Girish Johar, “It’s a big budget period romance drama whose not only scale but also music has created a positive buzz. Promotions are wide and in top gear. It’s a perfect summer release and with no recent big release in the last few weeks, is poised to open good at the boxoffice Cashing in on Mahavir Jayanti holiday, with a good wide release I assuming audiences word of mouth is good, I feel the film should open around 18-20crs on its Day 1a lone. Baqi sab aage dekhte hai.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra feel sit all depends on how much The promotions are gigantic.The expectations are huge. But the trailers and some songs failed to excite the viewers.So the opening will be somewhat subdued.If the film is very entertaining then it can be a blockbuster.”

Atul Mohan who helms the trade magazine Complete Cinema feels Kalank would get phenomenal opening. “The opening of Kalank would be biggest so far of 2019 .But how big a hit it would be will decided by its content. Kalank comes from one of the biggest banners today with ensemble cast and breathtaking visuals so excitement is in the air. Also this is perhaps one of the most expensive films to come from Dharma.”
