Saif Ali Khan is an actor who is known to take up challenges in his acting career. From playing the embittered Langda Tyagi in Omkara to currently playing a ruthless, Gujarati business tycoon in Bazaar, the actor loves playing a variety of roles.
Recently he has expressed a desire to act in Kabir Khan’s web series (based on Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army titled The Forgotten Army) on Amazon and now he has beenapproached by Netflix, to act in the web series based on a book called The Secret Game: A Wartime Story of Courage, Change, and Basketball’s Lost Triumph, by Scott Ellsworth. The novel has won the 2016 PEN/ESPN Award for Literary Sports Writing and Legendary Pictures has bought the rights to the book last year.
The source adds, “The web series will be an Indian adaptation of The Secret Game. Saif has been approached for the role of coach McClendon and is in talks for that but he cannot talk about it as it’s too early. Dates and money issues are being finalized and Netflix and the director of the web series will make their own announcement.”
The Secret Game is a true account of a group of college basketball players and a racially integrated game between the basketball teams from North Carolina College (Eagles) and Duke University (the best basketball team then wasn’t the Blue Devils but an all-white military team from the Duke medical school) in 1943, who faced off in a test of wills and skills. Young coach John McLendon from North Carolina College taught some revolutionary methods to his team and his Eagles would become the highest-scoring college team in America.
