The streaming platform in India is getting progressively powerful. With power comes responsibility. This week Netflix’s original Taapsee Pannu feature film Haseen Dilruba will compete in the digital space with Amazon Prime Video’s big global release The Tomorrow War.
Some say it is a lost war for Netflix.
Experts say the foreign invasion is no longer a multiplex phenomenon. It is now in households all over India. Chances are, there will be millions more eyeballs for The Tomorrow War than Netflix’s bloodsoaked mutton-curry potboiler Haseen Dilruba.
A source close to Amazon reveals a game-plan behind Amazon’s strategy to upstage Netflix in India. “In June Netflix’s big Tamil release Jagame Thandiram with Dhanush , and Ray the anthology of Satyajit Ray’s stories have both met with a lukewarm response. Amazon Prime Video had a game-changing hit The Family Man Season 2 in June. They expect The Tomorrow War to be their July blockbuster.”
The Tomorrow War will stream on Amazon from July 2 in English and 3 Indian languages , Hindi Tamil and Telugu enduring the widest possible exposure for their July biggie in India.
It remains to be seen if Netflix’s crime thriller Haseen Dilruba would be able to wean away a chunk of the audience waiting for Chris Patt’s high-octane action in The Tomorrow War on July 2.
