Thugs Of Hindostan: Heroine Crisis Hits Aamir-Bachchan Starrer
When it comes to Aamir Khan, everything from a pierced nose to a punctured schedule becomes big news.
While the nation and its neigbourhood jeweller have been obsessing over Khan Sahib’s nose ornament other problems plague his eagerly awaited project Thugs Of Hindostan which was supposed to start filming this summer.
It now seems unlikely that the opus will commence shooting anytime in the near future.
An acute heroine crisis has hit Thugs Of Hindostan.
While the two principal male leads Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan fell into place effortlessly, producer Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya are , in the words of an insider, “facing a major heroine hurdle”.
They’ve approached everyone from Alia Bhatt to Fatima Sana Sheikh to Vani Kapoor.Somehow the lady who will romance Aamir is proving super-elusive.
According to an actor who read the script the problem is with the characterization. “The heroine’s role is sketchy.Whoever plays the part will have little to do.The dramatic conflict is between Bachchan Saab and Khan Saab. In fact when Hrithik Roshan was supposed to do Thugs Of Hindostan he had pointed out this shortcoming in the script to Adi Chopra , and Adi had agreed with Hrithik. But instead of working on the heroine’s role he changed the hero instead.”
Now that Aamir is on board and the film is all set to roll, the absence of female protagonist has created a sense of crisis at Yash Raj.
Says an actor close to Yash Raj, “The last time Yash Raj faced a similar heroine crisis was when they needed a second leading lady after Madhuri Dixit in Dil Toh Pagal Hai. This time until they finalize a leading lady Thugs Of Hindostan is on hold.”
