Raj Kumar Santoshi’s daughter Tanisha

That Raj Kumar Santoshi’s daughter Tanisha  is making her debut in her father’s  provocative  film Gandhi Godse : Ek Yudh , is  an open secret. However  to avoid any debate on nepotism  Raj Santoshi has opted  not to speak about his  daughter at  any  of the media   interactions to promote his film.

Neckdeep in unfinished  projects, the one-time  successful  filmmaker  Rajkumar Santoshi is all set to make a comeback with this  film.

Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh  is adapted from the  controversial  play  Asghar Wajahat’s [email protected] . The provocative  play which brings Gandhi and his killer  Godse face-to-face is likely to  raise a  hornet’s nest   on screen for trying to  “humanize’ Gandhiji’s assassin.

One  wonders what  Santoshi’s daughter  would  have to do in a film where she plays neither of  the  protagonists. Theatre  actors Deepak Antani and  Chinmay Mandlekar who essayed  the roles of Gandhi and Godse on stage have reprised their  parts in Santoshi’s  film.

Incidentally, Santoshi’s daughter Tanisha is  best friends with Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor. Sridevi  and Santoshi’s wife Manali were also close friends.

In the meanwhile Mahatma Gandhi’s nephew Tushar Gandhi has condemned  Santoshi’s project.

In an  interview to ANI, Gandhi says, “I’m not surprised because for them Godse is a hero, and if they portray him as a hero, it should not surprise any of us. But I cannot comment on the merits or the demerits of the film because I haven’t seen it and I don’t intend to see films which glorify murderers.”

Gandhi added, “It is a very well thought out game plan and all these characters have been given the role to perform and they performed the role according to their queues and their timelines. The same director portrayed Baapu in a very wrong manner in his film Bhagat Singh, so it’s not surprising that he would make a film glorifying Godse.”
