Toilet Ek Prem Katha Takes A Dig At Hrithik Roshan
Devyani Nandy
Considering Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar are neighbours and very good friends one wonders what got into Akshay to make a joke about Hrithik’s extra thumb.
For those who haven’t seen Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Hrithik’s reference comes in when Akshay must produce a prospective bride with an extra thumb before his tradition-bound father Sudhir Pande. In a scene , Akshay and his screen-brother Divyendu Sharma are seen staring at a hoarding of Hrithik .
Sharma volunteers. “Maybe we should ask him. He may know someone like that(with an extra thumb).”
What is the implication here? That people who specially abled hang out together? If that is the assumption them it’s a very crude viewpoint to adopt in a film that purports to be progressive and reformative.
More to the point, how could Akshay be part of a “joke”(to each his own own) involving a dear friend and neighbour?
Most importantly doesn’t the CBFC ask for NOCs before clearing the mention of any real person in a film?
Apparently Akshay assured the censor board that Hrithik has been taken into confidence and that he could see the lighter side of the “joke”.
But the audience certainly can’t.
