The trailer of Tubelight projects [tooltip id=”88b6af99531f838ed90aed058b7d870a”][tooltip id=”c1b465420d07c688942ed18eadfd9f92″ keyword_color=”#000000″ background_color=”#ffffff”][tooltip id=”4db8f5608d45f5de7881d9bce162f4bf”]Salman Khan[/tooltip][/tooltip][/tooltip] as the innocent do-gooder who has no knowledge  of human guile and no craving  for  mortal appetites.

Some  time ago Salman had created a laughter sensation by claiming he was a  virgin. He seems  to be living out that image in  his recent film Bajrangi Bhaijaan and now  Tubelight. In Tubelight Salmantakes on  war-time strategies to  show how love can conquer all. He behaves like  an autistic cousin of the guy Ranbir Kapoor played in Barfi. Both should have been spanked as children  for acting cute to cover  up for their whimisicality.

It’s that mountainside air that does it. Our films automatically presume protagonists in the pahaadi provinces are pristine at heart and unversed in the loins. Check out Aamir Khan in Raja Hindustani,Ranbir Kapoor in Barfi, now Salman in Tubelight.

Let’s hope he doesn’t get typecast as the neo-Raj Kapoor. TheAwara/Sri 420 of this millennium  who believes love can conquer war.The trailer lays out the blueprint of the hero’s guileless peace mission through vignettes that talk about and illustrate the power of faith. The word ‘yakeen’ is used  repeatedly in the trailer to accentuate the sheer spiritual virginity of the  protagonist Laxmi SinghBisht(a.k.a Tubelight).

There is no romantic alliance  in Tubelight. What comes across very strongly  in the trailer is the bhai-bonding between Salman and Sohail Khan. They play brothers in Tubelight. And on Laxmi’sinisistence  younger brother Bharat takes off to fight for the motherland  against China.

I don’t know  how much of Kabir Khan’s melodramatic  material  is  mock-grave. Throughout the trailer I felt Salman parodying the cult of cuteness to the point of making his character look caricatural.

But then again, I may be reading too much into a  performance that is what it is because it doesn’t know any other way.

Innocence and candour are the guiding lights of Kabir Khan’s Eidpresentation.I just hope Tubelight is not more of  Bajrangi Bhaijaanwith a anti-war message thrown in. God knows we want to seeSalman move further into the arena of  character-assumption on screen rather than playing himself  ad nauseam.

The Tubelight trailer also features a pointed sequence devoted to the late Om Puri.It only reminds us  of  how much we miss those who are gone suddenly.

The trailer of Tubelight offers us outstanding  visual evidence of a directorial talent that moves in measured steps while remaining spontaneous  in representing scenes straight  out of life. What worries me is Salman’s simpleton’s act. Tubelight looks like a carryover of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The  Chinese are as good as adversaries as the Pakistanis. And  a cute Chinese boy becomes Salman’s ally and responsibility, just like the adorable  little girl in Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

My hope is pinned on Kabir Khan. He has  never repeated himself. But Salman has.Ad nauseam.[tooltip type=”box” html=”Input Your Content Here” box_background_color=”#eeeeee” box_opacity=”0.95″ box_padding=”10″ box_border_color=”#3F3F3F” box_border_width=”1″ box_border_radius=”0″ id=”88b6af99531f838ed90aed058b7d870a” /][tooltip type=”box” html=”Salman Khan Bollywood Actor” box_background_color=”#eeeeee” box_opacity=”0.95″ box_padding=”10″ box_border_color=”#3F3F3F” box_border_width=”1″ box_border_radius=”0″ id=”c1b465420d07c688942ed18eadfd9f92″ /]
