When Boney Kapoor Threatened Burn The Raw Print Of Bewafaa In Front Of Kareena

This happened in 2003 .Boney Kapoor was producing the costly Bewafaa directed by Dharmesh Darshan and starring Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar ,Sushmita Sen, Manoj Bajpai and Kareena Kapoor.

There was a long schedule of the film in Canada and …well…Kareena was just not in the mood for it. Her father Randhir Kapoor had just undergone bypass surgery and she was not inclined to leave Mumbai. In desperation Boney threatened to burn the footage of Bewafaa in front of her house.

How do I know? Because I was there sitting with Kareena when Boney was trying to call her. When she didn’t take his calls, he called on my number.

“Is Bebo with you?” Boney asked me in an edgy voice. I looked at her with an inquiring look .She signaled to say she was not there.I lied to Boney she was not with me.I have to confess I felt awful about it.

Boney persisted. “I know she’s with you. Tell her if he doesn’t leave for Canada asap I will burn the film in front of her house.”

Boney didn’t have to take such a drastic step. Kareena left for the Canada schedule the very next day.I doubt she even remembers the incident now. Though for obvious reasons, Boney remembers it vividly.

Bewafaa was one of the most expensive flops in Boney Kapoor’s career. An unofficial remake of B R Chopra’s Gumrah it was the story of a woman who has an extra-marital affair after she is forced to marry her brother-in-law when her elder sister suddenly dies.
