Casualty Of The Udta Punjab Hype, Junooniyat Pushed Forward By A Week

It looks Punjab wins over Kashmir, at least this once. The Punjab based anti-drug drama Udta Punjab which has constantly been in the news for the last two weeks has pushed a film out of the race this week.

Director Vivek Agnihotri’s Junooniyat which was to release this Friday alongside Udta Punjab has hastily and quietly bowed out of the race. While no official explanation has been offered for the sudden disappearance of Agnihotri’s  Kasmir-based romance from Friday’s schedules  featuring the real-life couple Pulkit Samrat andYami Gautam, and  all attempts to get an explanation ot of the film’s producers and directors were met with a stony silence, unofficial sources claim Junooniyat was scared off by Udta Punjab.

“Until  two weeks ago it was different scenario. Udta Punjab was competition enough for any other film to take on. But now with the immense curiosity generated by the film’s war with the censor board and the ensuing demand for extra prints, added theatres and enhanced  screens across the country any other release would have had to face insurmountable hurdles to get noticed. Besides Pulkit and Yami’s Sanam Re released just a few months ago hardly set the boxoffice on fire.Director Vivek Agnihotri’s last release Buddha At The Traffic Jamlast month was a wash-out,” says a source.

While Junooniyat has bowed out Udta Punjab now has only Nagesh Kukunoor’s sweet tender and charmingDhanak for competition.
