Netflix Plans Kartik Aaryan’s Diwali Dhamaka?
Netflix is planning a huge diwali dhamaka, and it’s called, what else, Dhamaka . In the Ram Madhvani- directed thriller that stars the hot-and-happening Kartik Aaryan as a celebrated news anchor grappling with a wily terrorist who threatens to blow up Mumbai city, Netflix feels they’ve a potential blockbuster on hand.
Sources say the plan is to give this premium product the full –on Diwali treatment.
And rightly so. The gap between theatrical and OTT release is rapidly shrinking. A Diwali release, at home or in theatres would now be received with equal fervor.
“And why not? A Kartik Aaryan release in theatres is big business. It would be no less on the digital platform. I’m sure Dhamaka will be as big a blockbuster on OTT as it would have been in theatres, just as Bhuj: The Pride Of India would have been a disaster on any platform,” says Roshan Singh a leading movie exhibitor in Bihar.
Interestingly Dhamaka is the remake of a 2013 Korean thriller Terror Live .Another Korean remake Netrikann featuring Nayanthara as a blind ‘eyewitness’ in a hit-and-run case is a smash hit on the OTT platform.
